Posix message queue help

Hi, I am developing an API which will communicate with a daemon. I am using POSIX message queues. The API functions will send a message requesting data to the daemons message queue. The response from the daemon will be sent to another message queue which will be read by the api calling function and the then the api sends a response back. My problem is that how to read the messages coming from the daemon. Here is example api function A { send message to message daemon poll message queue } api function B { send message to message daemon poll message queue } Can the polling of the message queue just waiting for a certain message? api function a is waiting for its response and api function b is waiting for its response but it one function reads all the data then its a problem. What do you think is the best way to handle this? thanks for your time

Distribute Internet to Some specific Computers in LAN

Hello Dear all, I have a UTP line coming from DHCP server in which internet is coming and it is distributing internet giving IP and DNS addresses automatically to any system connected , as it is from DHCP server. I want to setup a system for distributing internet to some specific group of computers only. I have have installed Virtual machine on Windows 7 where i am using Cent OS. and i have two LAN ports (one is from NIC card another from Virtual machine). How i setup some severs on CentOS (like Squid) and distribute internet to group of machines only in LAN. Thanks n Regards. Krishna

Recommendation About Backtrack

Well, I just currenlty planning to download Backtrack 5 R1 but I stuck with something. First, there's two favor as you guys know, Gnome and KDE. Currently I am using Fedora with Gnome, and it works perfectly for me. But when I go through some Backtrack Tutorials or something, most of them is using KDE. The interface looks perfect but recently when I was using Fedora with KDE, I got a lot of problems in web browsing: 1. The built in browser Konqueror, wasn't too happy with the flash plugin. 2. Then I installed the mozilla, the 'scim' chinese input not working. So the conclusion is, if I need flash, I need to open the mozilla, then if I need to type chinese, i need Konqueror. It just wasting time to use 2 browser at once. lol Then, I am thinking about using Backtrack as my main os, even the ONLY OS, but I worry it's difficult to have other application like Mozilla, Chinese Input, even VLC player. If I'm using Fedora, I can just install them with 'yum', but I don't think Backtrack have the same mehtod. Please someone give some suggestion or solution about these. Thanks =)

Squeeze Dual Root With Single Userspace

I would like to run Debian with multiple roots and share the same /usr directory but am unsure if this is asking for trouble. My ideal setup and reasons are below: /dev/sda1 100MB /boot /dev/sda3 4096MB swap /dev/sda2 400GB LVM LVM broken up as: Root_Stable 75GB Root_Testing 75GB USR 50GB Home 200GB I have my stable 2.6.32-5-686 default kernel for backup with a grub entry to boot the system with either Root_Stable or Root_Testing. I also a working 3.1.5 kernel that can boot with either root. The whole point of this is I do a lot of modifications and mucking about with the system in general. As I only have one computer so my Root_Stable is a standard netinst install with no modifications while the Root_Testing is a custom debootstrap with no SELinux support. As things become stable I shift the mods into the Root_Stable pretty much the same way Debian has its releases set up. The main thing I am worried about is how to share the /usr directory. I want access to my applications regardless to the root I am using but I do not know of the many interrelations that are going on in the background and if I ran two roots would apps freak out and start mutilating my data? Wine is a good example, I built from source and installed in /usr/share/wine and it worked great. After a few boots around the different roots now wine does not even load when run from the command line. Is thing an expected side effect of how I want to do things? and if so should I just run two user directories after all? Thanks!!

difference between linux and windows partitions

hi i am new in linux and i have some questions about linux partions.like in windows we have logical partitions where we save our data if windows get corrupt we install new windows in c:/ but our data remains save. so in linux can we do like this if my linux get corrrupt can i preserve my old data during new linux installation. and how partitions and directory structure works in linux thanks

Help me pick a distro!

So I have been looking for another distro to try but there are so many. I am currently on Mint 11 but have only tried Ubuntu. So I definitely would like to try a none Debian OS, to see the other side of the fence. But I also dont want to try something as intense as Arch Linux(from what I herd). I have decided between OpenSUSE and Fedora. Could some explain the highlights and weakness of both and Ill make my decision.

Ubuntu BackTrack5 "Found following drivers in Kernel: No such file..."

Hello Community I'm German and I hope you can understand my English :) I have downloaded and installed BackTrack 5. It is based on Ubuntu. After installing and configuring I have written in the Command Line: airdriver-ng kernel that should list all in-kernel driver for wlan cards. I know from another list that the drivers for my wlan card are in this list but it only displayed errors: Code: Found following stacks in the Kernel: grep: /lib/modules/2.6.39.4/build/.config: No such file or directory grep: /lib/modules/2.6.39.4/build/.config: No such file or directory grep: /lib/modules/2.6.39.4/build/.config: No such file or directory Found following drivers in the Kernel: grep: /lib/modules/2.6.39.4/build/.config: No such file or directory grep: /lib/modules/2.6.39.4/build/.config: No such file or directory . . . I'm now sitting under my desk because my lan cable is too short and hope to install driver from "airdriver-ng" but I cant. I hope somebody of you can help me.
