Need some help with Compiz/xorg/drivers...

So I have a few problems, that I think might be connected. I wanted to set up Compiz, and I got it all installed according to the debian wiki page on compiz, and it doesn't work. It suggested some options to insert into xorg.conf. Xorg.conf doesn't exist, so I created it and inserted the suggested commands, rebooted and got greeted by a lovely command line interface. So I deleted xorg.conf as root, and here I am. Another problem is a game I was trying to play. Urban Terror to be specific. when I run it, it lags like heck. When I say lag I don't mean 15fps lag, I mean 1-2fps lag, as if there weren't any video card drivers installed. Haven't tried any other 3d games. Both might be because of a lack of decent video card drivers. Or they could be completely unrelated. In any case, I might try running another linux game that runs with 3d graphics, to see if it was a problem with Urban terror, instead of the system. Doubt it, but it's worth a shot. I'll check back after that.
