script which will initiate a shut down on a server

Hi all,
I have an apc ups(5 KVA) with an SNMP card for remote management of clients for shutting down and startup of servers in my . I have an IBM server with RHEL ES 4.5 and some other ibm server with windows.
The problem is
I want to configure the ups to shut down at a preset time (Or if the input power in the ups is off for more than 10 mins). the ups will send a message to the clients 15 mins prior to the stipulated time and send a shutdown instruction to the clients. The server in which microsoft windows installed are shutting down properly. But the server in which RHEL 4.5 is installed is getting the message but is not shutting down. I searched APC site and find that the min version reqd for this is 4.8 and 5.5.
Now can i write a script which will initiate a shut down on the server when that specific message is recd from the ups.

Regards,
Nanda
